River Hongbao is an annual Lunar Chinese New Year event that is held in Marina Bay in Singapore.
The celebration was founded in 1986 and, through the collaboration of the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Association, has been held each year since.
River Hongbao brings out an awe-inspiring display of Chinese cultures and traditions
The word ‘Hongbao’ means Red Pocket, a New Year monetary gift that is believed to bring good luck to children and unmarried adults.
Visual displays of lanterns that depict Chinese characters such as the God of Wealth brings out the crowd in droves. During the event, both local and foreign acrobats and artists stage performances to an excitable crowd. Also, activities such as riddle games provide an opportunity for tourists and Singaporeans to mingle.
There will be fireworks and laser show too!
Here are some of the highlights:
If you love fireworks, you’ll definitely not want to miss out on this year’s Fireworks Spectacular, where they brought in award-winning fireworks artists from across the globe to light up the night sky in FOUR very distinct and jaw-dropping ways! Watch as they create the ultimate fireworks experience for you with the perfect blend of pyrotechnic art, colours, lights and sounds.
Amusement rides and other activities are the main attraction for kids while adults enjoy the carnival attractions with dodgem cars, Ferris Wheels and teacup rides which are fun for all ages.
The event also showcases stalls with intricate Chinese handicrafts with calligraphy, paper cutting and stamps. Make sure to head over to the many food stalls and taste the more than 30 unique mouth-watering Chinese dishes that are part of the event including pork, satay, roast duck and squid.
